BlueClaws capture Dizzy Dean State of Georgia 13U Championship by decisively dispatching 4 opponents, scoring 42 runs and only allowing 11. Playing against a field of teams from northern and southern Georgia, the 'Claws raced through the "winner's bracket" in the double elimination tournament. In the Championship game, the 'Claws allowed only one hit and beat tournament host, Sharon Springs Blue, by a score of 10 - 0. In the fifth inning, the 'Claws scored their final and State title clinching run on a line drive hit laced up the middle allowing the 'Claws runner on 2nd base to streak toward home and cross the plate for the 10th and final run of the game. The game also featured numerous stellar defensive plays by infielders diving for ground balls and outfielders leaping to catch line drives and record double-play outs. During the course of the State tournament, the 'Claws played with focus and a resilience that enabled them to pull together and reach a new, higher level of play for the team.
In the first tournament game against Sharon Springs Blue, the 'Claws erupted late in the game for 9 runs to win 13 - 2 while giving up only 1 hit. In the second game against a talented Hobgood Heat team, the 'Claws prevailed 8 - 3 in a contest that featured strong pitching and defense. The 'Claws even managed to conduct a perfectly executed "pickle" play by tagging an opposing base runner out much to the glee of the coaches. In the third game with a seat in the Championship game on the line, the 'Claws faced a newly resurgent Sharon Springs Silver team and prevailed in a very tense game that saw the 'Claws pull ahead late to win 11 - 6. To the 'Claws advantage, our hurlers were strategically rotated to meet the newly imposed Dizzy Dean tight pitch count limitations as they responded by throwing strikes and letting the defense shine in each game.

The DHYS 8U Blue Devils played their first tournament at the Kennesaw Clash at the Battlefield this weekend and claimed the Silver bracket championship. The team, coached by Michael Albino and John Zern, was assembled late and had only a handful of practices under their belts before this weekend’s tournament. But, they learned quickly on the field and improved exponentially over the course of three games on Saturday. By the time they met the Buckhead Bulldogs – who had defeated them 17-2 earlier – for bracket play, the Blue Devils bats had heated up and they were ready for the rematch.
The Bulldogs played well and the Blue Devils got into an early hole, down 10–2 after 2 innings. But, they were able to work themselves out of it by playing solid defense and holding the Bulldogs to four runs in the next four innings. The Blue Devils offense chipped away steadily and, when time ran out at the end of the fifth, the game was tied 14–14. The Blue Devils bats were hot by the sixth and they scored six runs to seal the win 20–15. The win sent them to the championship game against the Buckhead Bombers, who had beat the Mount Paran Spartans in their first game of the elimination round 16–1.
Buckhead dominated the Blue Devils in the first inning with seven runs, but the Blue Devils locked in their defense and battled back, holding the Bombers to just one run over the next four innings. At the end of the fifth inning, the Blue Devils lead 11–8. The Blue Devils bats again fired up in the sixth, where they scored five runs to put the game out of reach for the Bombers at 16-8. A clutch triple by Azel in the fifth, followed by the game winning single by Evan secured the championship game for the team. Together, the team collected 52 hits over two games, with multiple hits for Sam, Ashima, Evan, Sullivan, Edison, Luke, Jude, Everett, and Jacob.
